Dear Fellow Alumni, On behalf of the Global Executive Committee of the University of Maiduguri Alumni Association, I write to express our profound gratitude to every member of our great Association on the successful conclusion of the 2026 Chapter Elections. This was the first nationwide Chapter election in the history of our Association, and it was conducted digitally from start to finish from membership registration and verification, through declaration of interest and candidate screening, to voting, live results and declaration of winners. That so many of you registered, updated your records, paid your dues, contested, voted and followed the results in such large numbers is a powerful statement of the confidence you have placed in this renewed Association. Your active participation gave the exercise its legitimacy, and for that, we are deeply grateful. We extend our sincere appreciation to: • All contestants, who offered themselves for service with dignity and grace, and who have set a fine example for how our Association conducts its affairs. To those elected, congratulations; to those who did not prevail, thank you the Association still needs your energy and ideas. • Our members across Nigeria whose votes and vigilance made this a truly member-driven exercise. • The Electoral Committee, whose diligence, impartiality and long hours ensured that the process ran fairly and transparently from portal opening to the declaration of results. • The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, for the unwavering institutional support that the University extended to the Association throughout this exercise. • The Director of Advancement and Alumni Affairs and the entire Directorate, for their partnership, in making this a reality, for the guidance and support every step. We do not claim that the exercise was perfect. Being a first-of-its-kind, fully digital process, there were lessons to be learned, and every observation, complaint and suggestion received has been duly noted. These learnings will inform concrete improvements to our portal, our processes and our communications ahead of future elections. We also wish to inform members that bye-elections will be conducted to fill positions that were not contested during this round, across all affected Chapters. The Electoral Committee will announce the timetable and modalities for the bye-elections in due course, and we encourage eligible members in those Chapters to prepare to step forward. These elections have laid a solid foundation on which our Association can now build. With Chapter Executive Committees now in place, we turn our collective attention to our next milestone: the 1st Annual General Meeting, Annual General Congress and Award Night Dinner, holding on Saturday, 7th November 2026, under the theme "Unity, Resilience and Impact: Building UNIMAID, Strengthening the Nation." We look forward to welcoming our newly elected Chapter leaders and members from every part of the world to that historic gathering. Once again, thank you for your participation, your patience and your faith in the Association. Together, we will build the University of Maiduguri and strengthen our nation. With warm regards and esteem, Baba Shettima Kukawa Global President University of Maiduguri Alumni Association (Global)

ABUJA — The stage is set. On Thursday, 27th August 2026, the University of Maiduguri Alumni Association formally inaugurated the Dinner Organising Committee for the Award Night Dinner of its 1st Annual General Meeting/Annual General Congress, at a ceremony held at L&N Kitchen, Wuse 2, Abuja. The Committee was inaugurated by the Acting President of the Association, Maimuna Wakawa, who charged its members to deliver an evening worthy of the finest traditions of our alma mater. The nine-member Committee is chaired by Hajiya Laylah Ali Othman, with Aminu Shata as Secretary, and Aminu Jafiya, Saadatu Muazu, Abdulrahman Sade, Kingsley Chimezie-Alloy the Speaker, Abdul Bulama MC Tujens, Salamatu Oniyangi, and Abubakar Ahmad as members. Speaking at the inauguration, the Acting President congratulated the members of the newly constituted Committee on their nomination and selection, noting that their appointment was not by chance. The members, she stated, were carefully selected on the strength of their proven track records, their commitment and dedication to the affairs of the Alumni Association, and their experience and expertise in planning and executing successful events, and she expressed confidence in their ability to deliver a befitting and memorable Dinner and Award Night that reflects the values and spirit of the UNIMAID Alumni Association. Presenting the Committee’s Terms of Reference, she highlighted the responsibility entrusted to its members: to plan and deliver a memorable evening that will bring alumni together to reconnect, celebrate one another, honour deserving members and, most importantly, reminisce about the cherished memories of our old school days. The event, she added, is envisaged as an opportunity for alumni across generations to come together in an atmosphere of friendship, nostalgia, and celebration, while strengthening the bonds that continue to unite us as proud graduates of the University of Maiduguri. She assured the Committee of the full support of the Global Executive in ensuring the success of the event. Responding on behalf of the Committee, the Chairman, Hajiya Laylah Ali Othman, thanked the Global Executive Committee for finding her worthy of the responsibility of chairing the Committee. “The task ahead is doable with the support of all of us,” she said, pledging that her committee will deliver a world-class event befitting the University of Maiduguri and its alumni across the globe. The Dinner and Awards Night holds on Saturday, 7th November 2026 in Abuja under the theme “Unity, Resilience and Impact: Building UNIMAID, Strengthening the Nation”, bringing together up to 1,200 alumni and distinguished guests for the conferment of awards on distinguished alumni and an entertainment experience curated to take members back to their campus years, the music of our student days, cultural performances, throwback presentations, and reminiscences from every graduating set from 1979 to 2025. The Association warmly encourages graduating sets, hostel groups, and circles of old friends to begin planning now to attend together and make the Dinner their reunion, reconnect with classmates, rally your set, and mark the night side by side with those with whom you shared your campus years. Arrangements to enable groups to attend and be seated together will be announced in due course. Information on tickets will be made available soon, alongside further announcements on the awards and the full programme of the AGM/AGC weekend of 6th–7th November 2026. Every son and daughter of UNIMAID has a seat at the table. Signed: Engr.
